Cleaning out your drawers and ready to part with a few old t-shirts? Here is a step-by-step tutorial for upcyling those old t-shirts into a soft and colorful rag rug. This would be so cute in a child’s room or maybe a laundry room. I think that it is a project older kids could help with or even try on their own. Try a little upcycling on a rainy afternoon. Get the complete tutorial here. Happy Upcycling! Jill

Talk about going from drab to fab! I love this upcycle project. Take a set of old metal folding chairs, paint them a fresh color and cover the seats with fun fabric. Imagine how much fun these would be to set up for your next party. For complete upcyle directions check out punk projects. Happy Upcycling, Jill

Meet artist and furniture maker Matt Johnson. We are very excited about Matt’s work. His upcycled furniture and accessories are different from many of the upcycled pieces we have seen. They are true pieces of art and style while still being created with things like carburetors, pistons and fire extinguishers. Matt grew up an upcycled life. His childhood home was an 1850’s textile mill that his parents turned into a self sustaining live/work house that ran on water power. It was complete with animals and vegetable gardens. Matt …

This is a fun and easy upcycled furniture project and makes for a functional coffee table and a great place to display your “smallies.” I can’t take any credit for this idea. My in-laws had one at their home when I started dating my husband. It is an old printer drawer or tray placed on a base and covered with a piece of glass. Printer drawers once held the type set that was used in a print shop. They are wooden, sturdy and sometimes come with a cool …

Check out this inspiring furniture from Design By Leftovers. The Swedish based design team of Linda Netsman and Jona Netsman use “leftovers” to create this unique furniture. Leftovers “believe that the old, discarded or forgotten can be reborn. That every person and everything has a story to tell.” The beautiful piece you are looking at here is from their “People” Collection. It is made entirely from “pre-loved, re-claimed garments and fabrics.” We love how the mono-chromatic patchwork gives each piece the comforting feel of your Grandmother’s quilt …

We love this Farm Table. It looks so sturdy and durable. Very different from all of the particle board and laminate tables that you see in most furniture stores. The craftsman at Hammer & Hand were already established as green builders before they tried their hand at upcycled furniture. We’re glad they did because this table is beautiful. The wood from this table comes from century old barn timbers and they use a natural and environmentally friendly oil to finish the wood. That means you don’t need to …
