How To: Use Old Jeans
Thursday, June 23, 2011
Check out this denim conforter made from old jeans. My dear sweet Grandma made this many years ago from my Grandpa and my Aunt’s old jeans. We had many comforters similar to this in my home when I was growing up. My Great-Grandma used to make the same style with her old clothes and material scrapes. The reverse side is a cotton flannel and the filling was either a lofty quilt batting or an old blanket that needed a new use. This particular comforter measures 70 inches by 50 inches. The patches are 6 inches by 3 inches with a 2 inch border at the top of the comforter. If you think about it, even very small material scraps can be saved and upcycled into something useful.
Happy Upcycling,
Jill
That’s a great idea. People used to recycle household items routinely like this. Many family heirlooms are old quilts made from worn-out clothes. It seems that modern marketing and commercialism is the enemy of common sense!
Reusing your clothes with such an idea is really great. With this example we can bring to use loads of clothes that we usually waste. Thanks for sharing.
Used jeans have so many great uses besides being thrown out, some of the clothing companies are actually taking them back, shredding them, and using them in insulation.
